Laundry, Meal Plans, and Money, Oh my!

Hello Panthers!  Do you ever wonder how much money is left on your Meal Plan or Gold Account? I do. Budgeting is an important part of being a college student. Today I will give you some information about how to check the balances as well as how to put money on these accounts.

There is a simple way to check the balances of both your meal plan and your Gold Account at uwm.managemyid.com. At this website you will use your UWM Email and Password to log onto your account. Once you have logged in there are categories that display the balance of your Gold account and your Meal Plan. There is also a sidebar where you may add funds to either your Meal Plan or your Gold Account using a credit card (American Express, Discover, MasterCard, or Visa). There is an option to save this card on the website for future use. Students can also add cash directly to their Gold Accounts using the Cash Value Machines located in every laundry room.

Your meal plan can be used at any location food selling location on campus, including ReStores and Grind locations. A full list of locations is located on uwm.managemyid.com.

Laundry is funded through your Gold Account. Laundry is $1.35 per wash and $1.15 per dry. There are laundry rooms located in each residence hall.

Laundry Locations:
Sandburg: Level U of North and East Towers
Cambridge Commons: First Floor across from the mailboxes and next to the fitness room
RiverView: Floor Two down the hall from the cafeteria
Kenilworth: Floor Two, East End, Behind the elevators

IMPORTANT NOTE: Your UWM Student ID accesses both your Meal Plan and your Gold Account. Think of it as using one card for both a Debit and a Credit account at a bank. One card with two accounts.

If a parent would like to add money to their residents account they can do so by clicking on the 'Family and Friends' link at uwm.managemyid.com. They will be asked for the students ID number (located on their Student ID Card) and the last name of the student. Then they will enter their credit card information and confirm their transaction. The process is broken down into 4 easy steps!

As always, if you have any questions regarding this post, or University Housing, please contact me at uhmtg@uwm.edu.

Have a great day!,

Community Councils

Are you looking for a way to get involved and have your voice be heard? Do you want boost up your resume and gain valuable leadership experience? Then you should join a Community Council or SHAC!

Community Councils and SHAC are the student governments of the Residence Halls! More importantly, they are the voices of the residents in University Housing! Community Councils and SHAC also do a ton of events and activities for students!! One of these amazing events actually occurs this weekend on Sunday, September 28th! It's the SHAC Jamboree from 3pm-8pm in Sandburg Flicks! There will be scavenger hunts, free food, leadership activities and guest speakers!

Joining a Community Council or SHAC is a great way to get involved in your community and meet new people! They are held right in your residence hall which makes your decisions and inputs that much more important.

There are a total of six community councils: North, West, South, East-Purin, Cambridge and RiverView! They are open to any residents living in those communities! SHAC is also a great way to make a University Housing wide difference and is open to anyone living in University Housing.

If you are interested in joining SHAC, stop by their office in Sandburg C221! You can also email them at shac@uwm.edu or call them at 414-229-6313!

PASS to the rescue!

Good morning Panthers!

Feeling a little overwhelmed with classes, projects, and upcoming exams? Don't you worry PASS is here to help! PASS otherwise known as Panther Academic Support Services, is completely free tutoring available to UWM students. PASS study sessions are held all around campus, including our residence halls. If you are unable to make the specific times PASS is scheduled, they also provide you with online tutoring and the ability for you to schedule your own appointment.  For the tutoring sessions in our residence halls, you can just come right on in because there is no need for an appointment. Listed below are the Cambridge Commons and Sandburg Hall tutoring times and locations for Chemistry and Math. If you are a resident in Cambridge or RiverView we recommend going to PASS at Cambridge and if you are a resident in Sandburg or Purin we recommend you go to PASS at Sandburg Hall.
PASS tutoring also offers supplemental instruction (SI) to students as well. SI leaders attend class in a larger lecture hall, take notes, and keep up with the readings and homework. Then the leaders hold a review session to cover the materials in a smaller setting generally once every week. This then gives the students the option to ask questions and recover the material that they might not be able to do during lecture. Use online tutoring, go to SI reviews, or use the walk in tutoring in our residence halls! PASS tutoring is an amazing FREE resource you should all take advantage of!

Good luck on your exams!

Get Involved!!!

Good Afternoon Panthers!

Getting involved in student organizations is a great way to reach out and meet new people! Joining various student organizations is something that can completely change your experience at UWM and help you built valuable leadership skills!! There are over 300 student organizations at UWM and each offers its own unique experience! The Center for Student Involvement has tons of information on how to get involved and join these organizations! You can look up all the various organizations, contact information, and meeting times on Panthersync! You can also stop into the Center for Student Involvement in Union 363 for a more detailed look at different organizations!

When entering my Junior year at UWM, I decided I needed a way to reach out, meet new people and get involved! That's when I found the Center for Student Involvement and they helped me find my perfect student organization! I then joined UWM Relay for Life and it has completely changed my experience at UWM! Through joining this student organization, I was able to really get involved at UWM, meet lifelong friends and truly make a difference in the surrounding community.

If there is one suggestion I always give students, it is GET INVOLVED! Do something that matters and make your mark at UWM! This Thursday, September 11th, head over to Spaights Plaza from from 11-2pm and participate in the Involvement Fair! It is a great way to meet new people and join a student organization!!!

See you there!

Hello, My Name is Katie and I'm an Outreach Assistant!

Hi there everyone, I am Katherine the newest Outreach Assistant for University Housing, but you all can call me Katie! Facts about me: I am a Sophomore here at UWM. I am majoring in Communications with a minor in Political Science and am also working on my Honors College degree. As you can tell, I like to keep myself busy! But, I am also a pretty fun person. Some FUN facts about me include: I LOVE Laffy Taffy jokes. I was a foreign exchange student in high school.  I am a Bears and Cubs fan (and always will be!) My favorite TV show is the Office. You can frequently catch me singing (off key) to many musical soundtracks.

Now that you have a little bit of an idea about who I am, I will tell you a bit about my experience thus far in college. I was born in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois and moved to the small town of Iola, Wisconsin during my Middle School years. As I graduated high school I did not have a very realistic idea of who I wanted to be when I grew up. Confession time. UWM is not the first college that I attended. Out of high school I began my very short journey at DePaul University and quickly decided that it was not the place for me. After leaving DePaul I had a slightly tighter grasp on what I wanted college to be for me. There were two things that I was sure of: One. I wanted to continue living in Wisconsin. Two. I wanted to live in a big city. Milwaukee popped into my head and it never left. After an excellent Campus and Housing tour of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, I was hooked! The diverse student population, established Communication program and endless activities that UWM has to offer drew me in hook, line, and sinker.

So, I packed my bags of endless pairs of shoes and headed off to Riverview Residence hall. A plus about our South Campus Residence Halls is that they have WALK THROUGH CLOSETS! I repeat my friends, WALK THROUGH CLOSETS!! Living in Riverview was a great experience because it truly is a small community. It is our smallest residence hall and the people that live there have a special connection. For example, the guy who served my strawberry sprinkled waffle every Sunday morning knew me by name (and waffle).  In addition, the Kenwood Campus is a short shuttle ride away. Another perk for my Riverview and Cambridge Commons friends is Chubby’s Doughnuts. Chubby’s is an off campus restaurant located on North Avenue that sells little circles of amazing doughy goodness. I highly recommend trying them on your next trip over to UWM’s lovely South Campus.

This year I am a resident in the East Tower of Sandburg Residence Halls. I like to think that I can cook so the full kitchen was a big draw for me when I was Self- Assigning my room for my Sophomore year. I’ll keep you guys updated on my journey as a Sandburg Resident as this year progresses!

Can’t wait to continue my journey at UWM as an Outreach Assistant, if you have any questions about my experience here or about University Housing please feel free to contact me at uhmtg@uwm.edu ! See you around Panthers!! (:
