Discovery World

If you and your friends are looking for somewhere to spend a Saturday, but you want to do something more exciting and interactive than visiting the beach or the mall, I would highly suggest checking out Discovery World. Don't think that this is just for kids. I will vouch for the fact that it is an amazing way to spend a day.

Discovery World's mission statement is "Discovery World connects innovation, science, technology and the environment with exploration and learning through interactive exhibits and experiential learning programs. We are dedicated to helping people positively impact their communities by developing a better understanding of technology and the environment while fostering both innovation and creativity." Their mission statement describes exactly what you will find at Discovery World. It is a place that has something new and exciting around every corner.

My favorite place at Discovery World would be the Kohl's Design It! Lab. In the Kohl’s Design It! Lab, you can order up hands-on projects and begin turning your ideas into beautifully designed products. In addition to giving access to cutting-edge equipment and inspiring materials, the lab connects you with other emerging designers and experts who reveal where great ideas come from, share “tricks of the trade,” and discuss how great design ideas make their way to the marketplace. The lab acts as a restaurant in the sense that you put in an order for what kind of project you want to do, the lab workers will set it up, and then bring it to your table. It doesn't matter who you go with, everyone will love it. I went with my friends and we all made vases. When I went with my family, my sisters and I made matching rings, my mom made some sort of paper thing that she invented herself, and my dad made a pumpkin trick-or-treat bag. The best part is that the basic projects are free.

The Kohl's Design It! Lab is a feature of Discovery World that stays around all-year, but there are different programs that are featured just for the weekend or are seasonal. Currently there is an exhibit celebrating the 45th anniversary of Summerfest. The exhibit features pictures, autographs, and other memorabilia from the past.

You can visit their website to find out about prices, memberships, hours, and special events that are happening.

Another thing to note is that our own Innovation House Learning Living Community is involved with Discovery World. Click on the here to see what that partnership looks like and how to get involved.

Make sure to check out Discovery World! It's a Milwaukee must-see.
