Incoming Panthers!
First of all I want to extend a big congratulations to all of you on your acceptance to UW-Milwaukee! We can't wait to have you join us on campus. In fact, we aren't even going to wait all summer! Before you begin your collegiate journey, all incoming freshman are required to attend New Student Orientation.
NSO is a two-day, overnight glimpse into the coming year where you will become familiar with campus, register for classes, be introduced to the multitude of involvement opportunities available and so much more! In addition, you will all spend the night at RiverView Residence Hall where you'll get to experience first hand the residence hall lifestyle as well as meet other incoming Panthers!
Before you're able to register for your NSO the following tasks must be completed:
1. Pay at least $100 towards the $235 New Freshman Fee (either before or after taking the placement test)
2. Take Placement Tests - Register for testing here
3. Submit the University Housing Contract or an Exemption Form
4. Pay the $100 housing deposit (only if you completed a housing contract)
Once all of these steps are completed you will receive an e-mail invitation to register for your New Student Orientation! Parents are encouraged to accompany incoming students to NSO so make sure you coordinate schedules with them! There will be a lot of information delivered to you quickly and parents are great for helping remember and understand everything happening during this exciting process. There will also be special informational sessions for parents throughout the day. Parents are not required to stay overnight, but there is space available in Kenilworth at a cost of $40 per person per night which can be reserved during registration. Several hotels are also close-by if they prefer.
By completing all necessary steps to register for NSO and registering you will be all ready to come learn more about what it means to be a Panther! I would like to leave you with one tip though; most first year students take a lot of the same classes so they tend to fill up very quickly. The earlier New Student Orientation session you attend the more options you will have when selecting classes and setting up your schedule exactly how you want it!
Have a great start to your summer and I'll see you soon!
Eric

Roaring with the Cows at State Fair
Where can you enjoy a delicious cream puff, try 5 different
flavors of milk, pet a cow, AND display your Panther Pride!? At Wisconsin State Fair of course. On August 4 UW-Milwaukee will be
displaying their Panther Pride through out the day. There will be prizes to win, a contest you can show off your
roar in, and a performance from PECK school of the arts. Oh, and even Pounce will be there
taking photos and signing autographs.
All of these great activities are located at the Fair’s Central Mall,
across from the original cream puff pavilion. There are so many great activities all offered on August 4,
so grab your Panther paw prints and head on out to eat a cream puff with Pounce
at the State Fair!
Make sure you check out this article on the UWM page for more information on State Fair events and the State Fair page so you know all about UWM events and the rest of excitement at State Fair.

Well...
Made it through my first full week of classes. It seemed to drag on FOREVERRRRRR. Probably because I have an 8 AM math class every morning during the week :/
I had my first ever "online" class for English - we did an essay discussion over D2L. That was interesting, but it seemed like too much work. I feel like I would've rather sat in class for an hour and 15 minutes instead. Maybe cause I find online discussions to be rather cheesy and lame.
I skipped my first class this week too. Oops. I needed a day to just stay in bed and recuperate from the week (not enough sleep, everyone being sick, etc), but then I ended up going to my other class of the day later on cause I felt better by then.
I met up with my cousin who I found out lives in town, so she took me to her bridal shower with her cause otherwise I wouldn't have been able to go. Saw my mom and grandma for the first time since I went off for school. That was nice, but the constant "How are you liking school?" (blah blah blah) questions from everyone got kind of annoying. It was nice to see them though. As much as I whine about how I don't like my mom (ask any of my friends), I really do miss her. Not enough of the time to actually tell her i miss her though. I feel like being away from her will make her and my relationship stronger. We used to fight a lot during my last year of high school and the summer before college started this year. I feel a lot closer to her now that she's not constantly "all up in my business".
